Himachal Pradesh is a northern Indian state in the Himalayas. It’s home to scenic mountain towns and resorts such as Dalhousie. Host to the Dalai Lama, Himachal Pradesh has a strong Tibetan presence. Geography of Himanchal Pradesh

Himachal is in the western Himalayas situated between 30°22′N and 33°12′N latitude and 75°47′E ́ and 79°04′E longitude. Covering an area of 55,673 square kilometres (21,495 sq mi), it is a mountainous state. The Zanskar range runs in the northeastern part of the state and the great Himalayan range run through the eastern and northern parts, while the Dhauladhar and the Pir Panjal ranges of the lesser Himalayas, and their valleys, form much of the core regions. The outer Himalayas, or the Shiwalik range, form southern and western Himachal Pradesh. At 7,025 m, Shilla is the highest mountain peak in the state of Himachal Pradesh

Winters in Himanchal Pradesh are marked by snowfall and cold temperatures in the Himalayan mountain regions. While in the summers – a peak season to visit Himanchal Pradesh – the weather is pleasant in the hill stations. The monsoons arrive in July and last till September, with heavy rains .

Himachal is well known for its handicrafts. The carpets, leather works, shawls, paintings, metalware and woodwork are worth appreciating. Pashmina shawl is one of the products which is highly in demand not only in Himachal but all over the country. Himachali caps are also famous artwork of its people. Local music and dance reflects the cultural identity of the state. Through their dance and music, they praise their gods during local festivals and other special occasions. There are a number of fairs and festivals celebrated in Himachal Pradesh, including the temple fairs in nearly every region that are of great significance to this state. The day-to-day food of Himachalis is very similar to the rest of the north India. They too have lentil, broth, rice, vegetables and bread,etc. As compared to other states in north India, non-vegetarian cuisine is more preferred. How to reach

By road: The tourist destinations and cities of Himanchal Pradesh , such as Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, Dalhousie, Chamba, hajjiar, Kullu and more are well-connected to most northern Indian cities.

By air: Himanchal Pradesh has three main  domestic airports –Bhuntar Airport near Kullu & Manali, Gaggal Airport near Dharamshala, and Jubbarhatti Airport near the shimla. Regular flights run between Himanchal Pradesh and the metro cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad.

By rail: Due to a hilly landscape, Himanchal Pradesh has railway stations only at the foothills. Some important junctions are Shimla, Una, Solan etc.

For any interstate commute, the Himanchal path parivhan nigam (HTC) state buses are pocket-friendly and reliable.

Best time to visit

The climate of Himanchal Pradesh offers two great seasons to explore the state’s foothills and hill stations. March – April and September – October are generally the most preferred periods to visit Himanchal Pradesh. 

For travellers seeking snow, January and February are great months to experience snowfall. Whereas, adventure activities such as trekking and paragliding, or the ultimate spiritual pilgrimage journey – the Manimesh yatra Shrikhand Kailash are all best done during the summer months.
