Harsil is a village, tourist hill station and army area located on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, on the way to Gangotri, a Hindu pilgrimage site in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. It is known for its extensive apple orchards and is popularly referred to as the mini Switzerland of India.
Gangotri is a major pilgrimage town and visiting here for a trip will give you plenty of opportunities to visit temples not only in the town but also en route. Gangotri is situated at an altitude of 3,048mts above sea level. Gangotri offers scenic splendors of rugged terrains, gushing water of Bhagirathi River and snow-clad peaks. The place holds great importance amongst Hindus. The area around Gangotri contains many temples, ashrams, and Gangotri places that are worth visiting on your trip for a beautiful destination.

Delhi to Rishikesh
Drive Duration- 6-7 hours Drive Distance- 260km
- Start early from Delhi and drive to Rishikesh.
- Reach Rishikesh by afternoon and check-in at your hotel.
- After lunch, visit nearby places in Rishikesh and attend Ganga aarti in the evening.
- Return by evening/night and stay overnight at your hotel.
Rishikesh to Uttarkashi
Drive Duration- 4-5 hours Drive Distance- 170km
- Depart from Rishikesh in the morning and drive to Uttarkashi.
- Reach Uttarkashi by the evening and check in to your hotel.
- Visit the famous Kashi Vishvanath temple in Uttarkashi.
Uttarkashi to Harsil
Drive Duration- 3-3.5 hours Drive Distance- 80km
- Depart from Uttarkashi in the morning and drive to Harsil.
- Cover the Sattal lake trek – covering at least 5 of the 7 lakes. After you’ve had your fill – move on to Gangotri
- Enjoy a nature walk and explore the surrounding hills.
Gangotri visit and Harsil Sightseeing
- After breakfast, drive to Gangotri and visit the famous Gangotri Temple.
- Take a dip in the holy waters of the Ganges at the Gangotri Ghat.
- Visit Gartang Gali while coming back to Gangotri. Gartang Gali is an ancient trade route with Tibet.
- In the evening, visit Mukhba and Bagori villages and explore the beautiful orchards and apple gardens.
- Mukhba is the village where they keep the idol/deity of Gangotri in winters. The trek to temple is around 1 KM, and you can trek to the village and take blessings of the deity
Harsil to Haridwar
Drive Duration- 7-8 hours Drive Distance- 270km
- Check out of your hotel and depart from Harsil in the morning.
- Visit the Gangnani hot water spring and take a dip in it.
